White privilege is a paradigm shift that many people find threatening. Cultural humility is a step up from cultural competence. It not only asks us to be curious and open about the differences of others, but it requires that we come to understand ourselves as deeply cultured people who were raised to think about and to see the world in a certain way. In this workshop, Sheila Moriarty, a social work faculty member at St. Cloud State University, will share her journey to understanding and accepting her privilege utilizing Kubler-Ross’ Grief Loss theory. She will share her journey, explain why it took so long for her to become an anti-racist agent of change, and will encourage you to engage in deep self-work around these topics.
