St. Cloud, Minn. – #unitecloud and SURJ-MN (Showing Up for Racial Justice – Minnesota) are joining forces to host an MN-wide action in the name of peace and community outside of Granite City Baptist Church in St. Cloud on Friday, May 27th at 5pm with a press conference at 5:30pm.

The St. Cloud area has become a focal point of the national anti-Muslim conversation. This Friday, people from all over MN will come together in St. Cloud to show that no matter our religion, skin color, or place of birth, we are a community of humans that can live at peace with one another.

National anti-Muslim speaker, Usama Dakdok, is in Central MN this week for a 4 day speaking tour – Little Falls, Avon, Burtum, and St. Cloud (at Granite City Baptist Church, 6pm).  This message cultivates an already inhospitable climate across MN.  We must come together in peace due to violent acts that have happened in our state against Muslim people and Somali-owned businesses.

Besides the assembly and press conference, there will be an area for “Cookies and Conversation” where Minnesotans can talk TO community members (Muslim and non-Muslim), not just ABOUT them.

#unitecloud works to resolve tension and restore dignity to ALL people of Central MN through education and actionable steps by amplifying community voices and training leaders in community intervention. SURJ-MN organizes white Minnesotans for racial justice through community organizing, mobilizing, and education.
